1. One of these, funded by the university itself, is unspecified and thus open to all research perspectives within Media & Communication Studies:

2. One position is funded by the Baltic and East European Graduate School (BEEGS), focusing on the Baltic Sea area and Eastern Europe, and successful applicants for this studentship must focus their research on this region.

3. One position is funded by the research project “Narratives of Europe”. This doctoral student will participate in the research project “Narratives of Europe: Perspectives from its North-East Periphery”, led by Professor Johan Fornäs and with Carl Cederberg, Stefan Jonsson, Anne Kaun and Katarina MacLeod as participating researchers. The project is financed by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies (ostersjostiftelsen.se/projekt/432-narratives-of-europe–perspectives-from-its-north-east-periphery). The project investigates narratives about Europe in its north-east periphery, examining a range of narrative genres (philosophy, social movements, literature, art and music). The study that relates to this doctoral studentship will investigate narratives about Europe in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region, focusing on some contemporary media genre.

4. The fourth position is funded by the research project “Habitus och högre utbildning: ett forskningsprojekt om medier, smak och kulturell dissonans”. This doctoral student will participate in the research project “Habitus och högre utbildning: ett forskningsprojekt om medier, smak och kulturell dissonans”, which is led by Senior Lecturer Stina Bengtsson, with Senior Lecturer Lars Lundgren as a participating researcher. The project is financed by the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies. The project investigates how media use and cultural taste change with time, by combining qualitative and quantitative studies of social elites in Sweden and Estonia. The study that relates to this doctoral studentship is the qualitative investigation of taste, cultural preferences and/or national identity in relation to mediated and non-mediated memory among two generations of  Estonians and Swedes.
